The Civic Forum Initiative (CFI) and the Democratic Institute for Democratic Governance (IDEG) have called on Ghanaians to ensure clean elections on Wednesday whilst demonstrating zero-tolerance to fraudulent electoral process.
A statement by the CFI and IDEG copied to the Ghana News Agency on Tuesday said: “Ghana has attained global recognition as far as multiparty democracy is concerned and has scored high democratic credentials on the continent.”
The youth has been urged to take responsibility for protection and promotion of their own democratic rights and future ambitions through the refusal of any form of manipulation from politicians by inducing them to engage in acts of electoral violence.
The CFI and IDEG admonished the youth to desist from practices likely to undermine democracy and threaten the stability of the country’s multiparty system. “We have also demonstrated capacity in managing six presidential and democratic elections peacefully in a row since 1992.
“Elections may be turbulent or peaceful depending on whether or not they are perceived as enhancing or hindering the fulfilment of democratic aspirations of the electorate and citizens in general,” the statement added.
The two institutions reminded Ghanaians of their civic responsibilities to “support the National Elections Security Task Force and the Police in their tactical operations in safeguarding the elections for a credible outcome”.
The CFI and IDEG called on the Police “to exhibit impartiality, professionalism and take proactive stance in ensuring that cases are swiftly and thoroughly investigated and prosecuted where necessary”.
